Dear Addison Parents and Staff,
We want to thank you, the Addison community, and share with you the approved PTA budget that was passed at our September PTA meeting.
Our kids and our kids teachers will be getting what they need through your generous financial and volunteering support. We have increased many line items based on some additional money we had raised in the past. The expenses are being monitored and we need to raise money this year to cover some of these costs. We no longer have excess money for discretionary spending and will need to develop future budgets based on the budgetary needs of our school.
We have accomplished a lot in creating this year’s budget and we want to highlight some key points.
-
You will note that allocations in areas such as teachers’ checks, grade level funds, and the library are higher.
-
We need your support with the fundraisers to cover operating expenses. We currently have expenses of over $70K for supplies alone, not including staff or grade level checks. The fund raising needs will cover these. Please help support the fundraisers, such as E-scrip, book fair, gift-wrap, and the auction.
-
We value your support for both the PTA (which pays for the “stuff” as you can see in the proposed budget), and for Partners in Education (PiE), which support staff, such as our aides. Thank you.
-
We continue to welcome dialog on issues that pertain to the PTA and educational wellness of our children. Please feel free to contact us at anytime throughout the year and know that your child has a voice.
Warmly,
Katie and Cindy

Life Skills
curriculum | PTAAddison staff and parents feel that how we treat ourselves and one another is one of the important things we need to learn about as we grow. In keeping with our school vision of helping children become caring, tolerant, and responsible individuals, the* LifeSkills *program was developed. Each month we focus on a specific character trait, such as responsibility, respect, and acceptance. From activities at Monday morning assemblies, to classroom projects, to home discussions, to parent-led cooperative games on the playground, children learn important skills that help them in school and beyond.
One of our big events is STONE SOUP, which is kid-driven and directed by parent volunteers. Encourage your kids to participate!

If you are interested in helping support this program you can:
- Practice, discuss, and model the traits each month with your children to reinforce what they are learning.
- Read books at home that reflect these skills and traits.
- We'd love to hear your suggestions and ideas, and welcome your participation on a regular or occasional basis.
- If you'd like to volunteer, or if you have any questions or want to talk about LifeSkills, please freel free to contact any of Addison's four LifeSkills Parent Coordinators: Joyce Mitchell and Erika Erickson.

READY, SET, RUN!
Did you know six candidates are running for three seats on the Palo Alto Unified School District Board this fall? You have from now until Election Day, Tuesday, November 6th to get informed and involved. The Palo Alto PTA Council’s Parent Ed Fall Election Program is here to help.
14 schools around town are hosting either a forum or a coffee--with all six candidates participating at each event. Some schools are hosting coffees, giving parents and candidates the opportunity to meet informally. Other schools are hosting forums, a more structured event, with a moderator and written questions from the audience, using League of Women Voters guidelines. Addison elementary school parents are invited to all of these events, including the district-wide forum, Thurs. Oct. 4, 7.m. – 9p.m., 25 Churchill Ave.
