2.  Agenda Review
3.  Approval of November minutes: Approved
4.  Public Input: None Offered
5.  New Business:
        a.  Health Policies/Practices:

i. Questions came up regarding if the school keeps a health log of kids.

ii. We currently don’t have a health log- but Sheila decided to create one that would be tracking kids’ injuries

iii. The Office will be monitoring injuries with the log book and it will be available for following any concerns or patterns that come up.

iv. Suggestion to mark a spot for “Call Home”, sent home, or what else happened

v. Concerns were also raised regarding the temperature in the courtyard during Monday Morning Assemblies and how it is impacting children
        b.  Road construction and student commute routes

i. Road Construction on Channing is causing problems for kids going home on their bikes as the construction is continual

ii. Questions came up to find out what the laws are and how we can keep kids safe.
        c.  Race to the Top

  1. The school reform bill passed today and the questions come up to understand how it impacts Palo Alto. The bill talks about allowing children to be moved from failing schools into higher performing schools.

  2. John will send an email to the Superintendent asking how it will impact the school community

d.  Other

  1. Addison will be hosting Literacy Summer School this Summer

  2. PETA met to discuss new fundraisers- one discussion came up about having a Farmer’s Market once a month where parents can pick up produce “pre-ordered” and the proceeds would go to the school

6.  Old business
        a.  Challenge Success

i. Kelly had asked for us to review the website in November to look at the classes offered. The classes recommended are “Over Scheduling” and “Helping with Homework”

ii. The classes are very well received by parents, because it does present new information for them to consider

iii. How do we present this? Book Club Group, PTA sponsored event,

iv. Brandi, Sarrie, Cindy will be in charge of reviewing the book and coming up with topics to review and hold a book club for parents who are interested

b.  Budget update

i. The district is still waiting to discuss the budget until February 9th at the Board Meeting

ii. February 23rd they will be implementing any changes in the budget including cuts.

iii. The District has implemented a “Soft Hiring Freeze” they are not filling positions that are opening up.

iv. The Parcel Tax has been moved from April 6th to May 6th of this year.

v. We are currently at a 5.1 million dollar deficit with the District as opposed to the previously stated 5.6 million dollars due to the hiring freeze.

c.  Bond funds/plans

i. With bond funds what could we do to improve our school? We were told that we would be at the top of the list for the construction, but nothing has yet come along. $94 million dollars was set aside for Elementary Schools $20 million was set for Garland initially

ii. There is nothing concrete at this point as to how things will occur. Nothing will happen this summer as to new projects for elementary schools. Only Fairmeadow and Ohlone at this point.

iii. Concerns were raised regarding the money left over for the elementary schools. We were concerned because we’d really like to know where the money is for the elementary school construction
        d.  Other

7.  Principal's Report

  1. The Field is still a mess at this point. The sub contractor who was in charge of completing the field was overextended and did not finish the job well.

  2. The district has put in a work order to request immediate action. The city is still working on the field. If it cannot be fixed in the little pieces we may need to close the entire field again.

  3. Students registering at Addison for Kindergarten will need to be registered by February 5th

  4. Jeff Sid will be the parent coordinator/contact for the new Green Team. Grant Althouse and Jackie Hurd will be the school liaisons for the new green team and they will work on educating the staff and students regarding this issue.
