Principal's Message, 3/12/2017

Sunday, March 12, 2017 - 11:00pm

Dear Addison Families,

Last week, the twelve elementary principals presented our Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) plans to the School Board. This presentation was a culmination of our collective efforts to create school goals that support the three district focus areas- Safety & Wellness, Equity & Access, and High Quality Teaching & Learning.

Our staff and Site Council has spent months creating measurable goals and action items to support the growth of each student. We feel proud of our work and if anyone is interested in seeing the plan, we will keep a copy in the office. For the presentation, the principals are grouped to highlight the work in one of the district focus areas so my group focused on High Quality Teaching & Learning. We decided to collect footage of the amazing work in our classrooms and put it together in a video. The practices you'll see are consistent across all our schools and Addison is highlighted in the math segment:

On March 20, all K-5 students will be seeing the TheaterWorks production, "Oskar and the Big Bully Battle". The assembly covers many different types of bullying, including physical abuse, taunting, name-calling, spreading rumors and cyber bullying.  Kids also learn the difference between being an "UPstander" (a person who takes a stand when witnessing bullying) and a "BYstander" (a person who doesn't act).  All the characters in the play are at one time a victim, a bully, a bystander or an upstander, which guides students to see a bit of themselves in one another.  The play supports our ongoing work in Project Cornerstone, and teachers will have the opportunity to use a study guide to discuss these important issues before and after the show.

Finally, I would like to congratulate our Crossing Guard, Judy, who was honored with the PAUSD Community Advisory Committee Sweetheart Award for her ongoing service, care, and support of our students. These awards are given once a year throughout the district and I felt very proud that one of our own was acknowledged for her ongoing dedication to our community!

Thank you,

Amanda Boyce
