Principal's Message 04/24/2016

Sunday, June 5, 2016 - 4:06pm

Dear Addison Families,

Since returning from Spring Break, the Addison Staff has been busily preparing for the end of the year and looking ahead to 2016-17.  As mentioned in the last Principal's Message, the Optional Parent Input Form for next year's class placement is available in the office and due April 29.  Once again, feel free to use this form if there is information that your teacher may not be aware of as we will work together to form balanced classes next year.
This past Tuesday, Ms. Davidson and I were honored to receive PAUSD tenure at the Board Meeting!  I had the opportunity to speak about Ms. Davidson and highlighted her strengths as being collaborative, empathetic, reflective, and taking risks.  She has immersed herself in Readers Workshop this year, piloted a co-teaching program with another 5th grade teacher, and continues to support students through our after school intervention program, Addison Academy.  We are very fortunate to have Ms. Davidson's creative and energetic spirit at Addison!

On Wednesday, the staff participated in a Code Red Training in order to review the procedures if an imminent danger presented itself on campus during school hours.  We will have a Code Red Drill on May 4 @ 11am that should last approximately 30 minutes.  During this time, teachers will practice the safety procedures with their classes.  Our teachers are very skilled at discussing and answering student questions regarding a Code Red Drill but feel free to touch base with your child's teacher if you have questions about communication with students.  Also, as a reminder, all parents need to check in the office every time they come on campus to volunteer AND wear a volunteer sticker.  Teachers have also been reminded of this expectation when inviting parents in to the classrooms

The Lost and Found Shed is finally back!   Due to the new structure and materials, we found a spot on campus that provided a more solid foundation and protection from weather.  Therefore, the new shed is located on the side of Room 2 close to the entrance of the school on Addison Avenue.

Finally, our 2016-17 teaching staff is complete!  Please see changes and updates below:

  • Beth Maxwell (currently 5th) is re-assigned to 4th grade
  • Lee Mitchell (currently 3rd) is re-assigned to Kindergarten
  • Jan Nash-Arrigo (currently K) and Leslie White (Reading Specialist) are retiring
  • Amy Foy (currently K) and Sarah Newman (currently teaching one day per week in 2nd) will be exploring other opportunities outside the District
  • Lynn Beck and Teri Baldwin will job share in 2nd grade
  • Kelly Dowd will be joining the Addison staff as a 1st grade teacher; Ms. Dowd and I worked together in the Cupertino School District where she taught Kindergarten and I'm thrilled that she will bring her many talents to our community!

Sincerely,
Amanda Boyce
Addison Principal
