To all Addison 5th graders, congratulations! We will miss your smiling faces. The Addison community wishes you all the best of luck in your middle school adventures and beyond! Make sure to come and visit us sometime during the next school year.

To all other Addison students, enjoy your summer! We'll see you all on August 16.

Principal's Message, 5/29/2016

Dear Addison Families,

It's hard to believe another year has passed. As I reflect back on the year, I want to thank our four parent leadership groups, PiE, PTA, Project Cornerstone and School Site Council (SSC) for all your support and partnership. Our PiE budget added full-time counselors and an Intervention Teacher on Special Assignment this year and PTA picked up the cost for all bussed field trips and purchased leveled classroom library books for all rooms. Our Project Cornerstone parents came together each month to preview the books and plan activities that support the social/emotional growth of each child on campus. Finally, our SSC helped work through the schematic designs and joined me at all the Board Meetings when our private donation and remodel project  were being discussed. It has been a very exciting year for which I feel deeply grateful.

This summer, I look forward to joining a few of my teacher colleagues in New York as we attend the Teacher's College Reader's Workshop training at the end of June. Next year, we will continue implementation of Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop, and begin a district-wide math pilot. In the fall, all elementary teachers will also be trained in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). With these many curricular changes comes growth and new opportunities for our staff and students.

Besides New York, my husband and I are looking forward to a few days in Mexico and then taking our girls to Legoland in San Diego. As much as I love my work at Addison, I am looking forward to slowing down, spending time with family, and recharging for a new school year.

I wish you all the best over the summer break whether that includes new adventures, reconnecting with family, or having long, leisurely days at home. Thank you for another amazing year. One of our Addison parents wrote a great article published in the Palo Alto Weekly this past Friday.  She highlights many wonderful things about our school and district and I wholeheartedly agree that it's "the spirit" of Addison that makes it a very special school.  I look forward to our continued journey together in 2016-17.
